How to Download Wii NAND Backup Files for Dolphin Emulator
If you want to play Wii games on your PC using the Dolphin emulator, you may need to download Wii NAND backup files. These files contain the system data of your Wii console, such as save data, downloaded channels, and the Wii Menu. Some games may require these files to work correctly.
There are two ways to get Wii NAND backup files: either by dumping them from your own Wii console using BootMii, or by downloading them from the internet. In this article, we will show you both methods and explain how to use them with Dolphin.
Dumping NAND with BootMii
BootMii is a homebrew application that allows you to backup and restore your Wii's NAND flash memory. To use BootMii, you will need:
A homebrewed Wii console with BootMii installed
A SD card
Here are the steps to dump your NAND with BootMii:
Access BootMii through the Homebrew Channel.
Use a GameCube Controller or the Power and Reset buttons to navigate through the BootMii menus, as detailed here.
Select Options (gears icon) on the far right.
Select Backup NAND (Green arrow from chip to the SD card), and wait until it completes.
Once completed, remove the SD card and put it into your PC. You should see a file named nand.bin on the SD card. If you do, your NAND has been backed up.
Downloading NAND from the Internet
If you don't have access to a Wii console or don't want to risk bricking it by installing homebrew, you can also download Wii NAND backup files from the internet. However, be aware that these files may not be legal or safe to use, and may not work with all games or online services. Use them at your own risk.
There are several websites that offer Wii NAND backup files for download, such as Archive.org. You can also search for them using keywords like "wii nand backup files download" or "wii nand dump for dolphin". Make sure to download the files that match your region and system menu version.
Using NAND with Dolphin
Once you have obtained your Wii NAND backup files, you can use them with Dolphin in two ways: either by importing them automatically or manually.
Automatic Import with Dolphin 5.0-3416 or newer
This is the easiest and recommended way to use your NAND with Dolphin. It will decrypt and unpack your NAND files and extract the device credentials and system files required for network services emulation. To do this:
Select Tools > Import BootMii NAND Backup.
Browse to the location of your nand.bin file and select it.
Dolphin will import your NAND files and display a message when it's done.
Manual Import
If you are unable to import your NAND automatically or simply wish to browse the contents without installing them to Dolphin, then you can manually extract your NAND files using third-party tools. However, note that this method does not work with Wiimmfi, an online service that allows playing Wii games online after Nintendo shut down their servers. You must follow the instructions in Automatic Import instead if you want to use Wiimmfi.
To manually extract your NAND files on Windows, you can use NAND Tools, a package that includes several programs for decrypting and unpacking your nand.bin file. To use it:
Download and extract the package to a folder of your choice.
Place your nand.bin and keys.bin files (the latter is generated by BootMii) into the same folder.
Open cmd.lnk (a shortcut file that will open a command prompt in the 061ffe29dd
